Modern Texas with Eastern Influence

This award-winning residence blends modern Texas architecture with subtle Eastern influences to create a home centered around light, calm, simplicity, and connection to nature.

Designed by Hoffmann Homes, the project went on to receive multiple Dallas Builders Association ARC Awards, including Best Home Under One Million, Best Architectural Design, Best Kitchen Design, Best Bathroom Design, and Best Green Home.

Constructed using the Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) building system, the home combines resilient construction, exceptional energy efficiency, quieter interiors, and long-term durability with warm modern design and highly livable spaces.

The design philosophy focused on bringing the outdoors into the home through natural light, carefully framed views, and strong connections to outdoor living areas. A central courtyard and expansive glass openings allow daylight to move throughout the home while creating a peaceful relationship between the interior spaces and the surrounding landscape.

Inspired in part by the homeowners’ English and Singaporean backgrounds, the home balances modern simplicity with warmth, texture, and relaxed livability. Bamboo flooring, natural materials, and thoughtfully designed outdoor gathering spaces reinforce the home’s calm and welcoming atmosphere.

One of the home’s signature features is a Scandinavian sealed-combustion wood stove that serves both as a design element and as practical resilient infrastructure. Shortly after the homeowners moved in, Dallas experienced a major ice storm that caused a prolonged power outage. During the multi-day event, the stove allowed the homeowners to heat the home comfortably while also preparing daily tea and meals, reinforcing the value of resilient and thoughtful home design.

The result is a healthier, quieter, and more energy-efficient modern home designed around natural light, indoor-outdoor living, and long-term comfort.
