Old World Inspiration
Hoffmann’s first inspiration for energy-efficient construction occurred when visiting family in Ibiza, Spain. On the Spanish island, he visited a cousin’s home that was almost 400 years old. While simple, the design was energy efficient and sustainable. The perimeter walls of the home were three feet thick and constructed with stone excavated from the building site. The results were significant: the walls kept the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
