Building Strong, Sustainable and High-Performance Homes for 25 Years

Hoffmann Homes builds award-winning and innovative green homes that use quality materials, sustainable building practices, smart technologies, and reliable and efficient energy sources for maximum comfort.

Pioneering home builder and residential developer Alan Hoffmann was first inspired to pursue alternative construction processes after visiting an older cousin’s home on the Spanish island of Ibiza. The 400-year old home had three-feet thick perimeter walls comprised of stone excavated from the building site. The mass of these walls allowed the ambient temperature of the ground to conduct up through the walls to help keep the house cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. Hoffmann replicates this elegantly simple system today in his distinctive mode of construction with Insulated Concrete Forms.

“In 1994, when I was introduced to the Insulated Concrete Building system that we use today on all of our homes, I realized that ICF was a 21st century version of the stone and stucco thermal mass walls of my family’s home in Ibiza, Spain.”    —Alan Hoffmann, founder and CEO of Hoffmann Homes

Old-world features such as thick thermal mass walls, breezeways, and whitewashed cement and stucco finishes are reimagined in a modern context in Hoffmann Homes’ newest build near White Rock Lake. Situated on a sloped corner lot in Little Forest Hills, the home on Diceman features high-performance windows, proper housing orientation and a storm shelter/pantry.

“Our homes deliver top-quality, storm safe, high-performance construction to homeowners interested in energy efficiency and sustainable living at a cost-effective price,” said Alan Hoffmann, president of Hoffmann Homes. “We combine a high performance building envelope with a natural gas sealed combustion furnace for maximum efficiency and comfort.”

Each Hoffmann home includes a conditioned attic and LED lighting, and is solar-ready and pre-wired for rapid electric vehicle charging. Other features include a gas tankless water heater, high-efficiency gas furnace, sealed combustion gas fireplace, gas cooktop, outlet for a gas grill, ready for a gas backup generator and plumbed for a gas dryer. These natural gas appliances help reduce energy use, lower utility bills and reduce emissions while increasing homeowner comfort.

“Our sustainable home, the second LEED-certified Platinum home in Dallas, is an urban sanctuary,” said Anna Clark, a Hoffmann Homes homeowner since 2007. “Concrete walls give it a sense of permanence while high-efficiency technologies enhance our comfort and keep energy bills low. Alan Hoffmann’s construction isn’t just ‘green,’ it’s smart.”

Simply put, in Hoffmann’s words, “I don’t build houses. I build giant Yeti coolers disguised as houses.”

Hoffmann Homes’ energy-efficient homes were the first Platinum LEED Certified Homes in Dallas. Currently, the company uses the Green Built Texas certification and HERS evaluation by RESNET (see www.hersindex.com/benefits). The company has also appeared on D Home’s “Best Builder” list for 13 consecutive years.
